Profile Information

What school do you attend? Include college(s) if applicable.
Cedar Shoals High School, Georgia State University & Kennesaw State University
What was your first experience with the game of baseball?
My first real experience with baseball happened on September 7, 1996 when Mr. C.J. and I met for the first time. He told me he played baseball for the Chicago Cubs and I thought he was just trying to impress me; after all I wasn't familiar with the minor league system and I knew I hadn't seen him on TV before. After a few Baseball 101 classes with C.J., I fell in love with the game for the first time- oh yeah, CJ too:-)
Who is your favorite baseball player and why?
C.J. Stewart, of course! Because he always looked good in his uniform:-)`
Tell why serving the community is important to you.
Now that I'm a mother, it's important for me to show my children that service starts where you are. You don't have to have a gazillion dollars or be a TV/movie star to make a difference. Look around, start where you are today and watch how your efforts can positively impact others.
Finish this sentence, "If I could change one thing in the world, it would be......"
...the quality of the education system. We've come a long way, but we've got so much farther to go. Think about it, we've had innovative, technological advances in everything from music to microwaves but our education system is still antiquish. The current system still assumes that all kids learn primarily through lecture when there are numerous studies that show otherwise. Just think how much more successful our children would be if we taught them in a way they could actually learn, comprehend and apply 100% of the time? Just something to think about.
How will you support L.E.A.D. in carrying out its work in the community? (You may select more than one answer.)

A dear friend of ours, Margarette Purvis of PCG Services (www.askpcg.com), took time out to take Mackenzi on an exposure event of a lifetime: Tea at The Ritz. Thanks, "Aunt Maggie"!

THE BUILDER

I saw them tearing a building down

A team of men in my hometown.

With a heave and a ho and a yes yes yell,

they swung a beam and a sidewall fell.

And I said to the foreman, "Are these men skilled?"

"Like the ones you'd use if you had to build?"

And he laughed and said, "Oh no, indeed...

the most common labor is all I need...

for I can destroy in a day or two

what takes a builder ten years to… Continue

Earning A's: Legacy League Blogging

In order for players to earn A's towards becoming an Ambassador, weekly blogging about Legacy League practices, games, events, etc. is required. What should you blog about? Blog about what you've learned in practice, about the impact of instructional play games and how much you enjoy an enrichment or service activity. Your blogs help us see the L.E.A.D. experience through your eyes. Be as lengthy as you…

....or do the East players have a little more charisma and personality? I noticed it during the introductions that the players did. The West players were very serious and stoic; the East players were smiling more and just showed more personality. I guess I am a little biased since Trey Griffin and Chavez Clarke are clients of ours but even their East teammates seemed a little more alive during the intros. But I guess that doesn't count, huh? Let's see who can make their bats and defense do the… Continue

Braves vs. Yankees Series

Posted on June 25, 2009 at 8:14am 1 Comment

So far this series has proven to be very exciting. I hope our Ambassadors are watching because being a fan and student of baseball requires you to not only practice and play the game but also watch it whenever you get the chance. Along with the professionalism, I saw a lot of mistakes as well. I'm pointing this out because so many young men put tremendous amounts of pressure on themselves to be perfect when the professionals can't even live up to perfection. I noticed on last night's… Continue

Hey Mother. Just wanted to say hi even though I'm only like 5 feet away from you. I'm weird like you say all the time that's probably the only way I can explain why I'm doing this. Well anyway I'm going upstairs.

Thanks for your comment regarding Wesley. I want to add that Wesley has matured and grown quite a bit since being involved with L.E.A.D. I have been very proud of the way he has taken the initiative to get to practice, been very organized, and plans his activities better. I am very happy with what I have seen at home and on the field. Thank you for all of your hard work. We are seeing positive results.

Hi Kelli,

I just wanted to say hello and wish you a great week. My family and I enjoyed meeting you last week at the Braves' game! Looking forward to seeing you again and finally meeting CJ in person. Great to see the "Hey-Maker" generating so much excitement in the community! I even have my former players up north following him (Twins' fans of course, but they still show love out of respect :-)) Hope you have a great day.
